Two young lives were tragically lost in a car crash on Washington Road in McDuffie County, Georgia, on Monday morning.
The McDuffie County Coroner’s Office confirmed the incident was reported to 911 at 10:07 a.m., with the crash occurring in the northbound lane of the 4400 block of Washington Road.
Authorities have identified the victims as 16-year-olds Zymia Baughens and Denijah Granberry, both from Athens, Georgia. They were passengers in a 2015 Dodge Journey. The McDuffie County Coroner confirmed that both teens were pronounced dead at the scene at 11 a.m.
The Georgia State Patrol, along with the McDuffie County Coroner’s Office, is currently investigating the fatal accident.
It has been reported that both Baughens and Granberry had been listed as runaways earlier in December 2024. The condition of the driver involved in the crash remains unknown at this time.
McDuffie County, located in the state of Georgia, has a population of 21,632 as of the 2020 census. The county seat is Thomson, and it was established on October 18, 1870, named after South Carolina governor and senator George McDuffie.
