Penny Rushing, the longtime owner of VICI Beauty School and VICI Capilli Salon, has announced her retirement and the closure of the business after more than 50 years, revealing that the heartbreaking loss of her son played a significant role in the difficult decision.
In a heartfelt message, Rushing shared that the death of her son changed her life in ways she never imagined. She described him as not only her beloved son but also an integral part of the family business and the person she believed would one day carry on the legacy they had built together.
“Without him, I realized it was time to begin a new chapter,” Rushing wrote as she reflected on the emotional decision to retire.
Despite the announcement, VICI Beauty School and VICI Capilli Salon will remain open through approximately October 2026, allowing clients to continue scheduling appointments while providing students with the hands-on training required to complete their education and begin their careers.
Rushing emphasized that the school’s commitment to its current students remains unwavering and that staff members are working closely with each student to ensure they have a clear path toward graduation and their future careers in the beauty industry.
She also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the students, graduates, clients, employees, and community members who supported VICI throughout its more than five decades of service. Rushing said the institution became far more than a beauty school and salon—it became a family where dreams were realized, confidence was built, friendships flourished, and lives were transformed.
Although VICI’s doors are expected to close later this year, Rushing said its legacy will continue through the thousands of beauty professionals whose careers began at the school.
While the name of Penny Rushing’s son has not been publicly disclosed, his passing has left a profound impact on his family and on the future of the business he helped shape. Heartfelt condolences are extended to Penny Rushing, her family, and all those mourning this tremendous loss.
