After battling a man who is accused of stabbing its owner with a screwdriver, a police dog allegedly saved its owner’s life. Just before two in the morning on Thursday, South Australian Police were called to the Adelaide suburb of Fenton after receiving complaints of two individuals reportedly attempting to break into cars and residences.
A second suspect allegedly entered an SUV and drove to Noblet Street after a 42-year-old man was apprehended on Arnold Close Street. Just before 4am, an officer and his canine partner, Rusty, were on foot patrol on Noblet Street when they noticed a man riding an SUV through the apartment building’s yard.
The suspect allegedly pulled out a screwdriver and stabbed the officer in the hand after the officer challenged him. Rusty protected his handlers by attacking the attacker despite apparently trying several times to knife the dog and the cop.
When more cops showed there, the man was still clutching the screwdriver.
An examination revealed that Rusty was unharmed, all owing to his stab-resistant harness, while paramedics attended to the officer’s hand injuries.
After being detained, the 27-year-old from Findon was brought to the Royal Adelaide Hospital to receive treatment for dog bite wounds. The individual is anticipated to face a number of charges, including attempting to kill or seriously hurt a working animal, attacking crucial emergency officials, disobeying police, and possession of an object.
He was denied bail and told not to show up in court on Thursday in Port Adelaide. On Thursday night, Rusty and his agent will hit the streets.
