Glen Kuiper, an Oakland Athletics commentator, issued an apology after seeming racist while discussing a visit to the Negro League Baseball Museum.
Prior to Friday night’s A’s game against the Kansas City Royals, Kuiper spoke with colleague Dallas Braden about a trip to the museum, but he reportedly mispronounced the word “Negro” and omitted the Take it without being offensive.
Kuiper apologized on live later in the game but did not go into any detail.
Back at Kaufman Stadium, welcome. I only thought, I said something earlier in the broadcast that didn’t come across the way I intended it to, Kuiper said. “I just want to apologize if that sounds different from what I was trying to say. I just want to say that I’m sorry about it.
Later, the A’s released a statement labeling Kuiper’s remarks as “unacceptable”.
The Oakland Athletics declared, “The Oakland Athletics will not tolerate this language.” “We’re working to control the situation.”
Kuiper has been the Bay Area’s site for Class A contests for around 20 years. Duane Kuiper, a former big league broadcaster for the Giants, has a younger brother named him.
In the fifth inning, Kuiper expressed regret.
“I said some things earlier on the show, but it didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted it to,” he said. “I just want to apologize if that sounds different from what I was trying to say. Just a quick apology for that.
Known for his “Baby’s Gone!” home plate comments, Kuiper has been NBC Sports’ Team A’s on-air announcer for 18 years. Duane Kuiper, his older brother, worked as a San Francisco Giants commentator.
After the event, The A’s posted a statement on Twitter.
“Glen Kuiper’s pregame commentary today included improper language. The Oakland Athletics will not put up with such rhetoric. We are making a lot of effort to fix this problem, the club claimed.
