The sudden passing of Marisa Maleck is noted by the Commonwealth Society with deep regret. Marisa most recently served as a partner at King & Spalding, where she was in charge of the practice areas of Data Privacy and Security and Appellate Litigation. But we first encountered her when she joined the Federalist Society team as a fiery freshman from Amherst who enjoyed reading The Wolokh Conspiracy around 16 years ago.
Marisa was a key contributor to the development of our teaching department. She attended the University of Chicago Law School, so it should come as no surprise that she was a highly effective president of our student body, resolving administrative issues in record time because no one wanted to stand in her way when she set her mind to something.
She later worked as a partner at King & Spalding and served as a clerk for Judge Pryor, Gibson Dunn’s DC office, and Judge Thomas before beginning law school. In addition to being attentive and kind, Marisa was a force to be reckoned with wherever she went. It was difficult to accept that she had left.
