The unexpected death of Jagan Mongan Periasamy’s 35-year-old daughter is almost unimaginable. However, knowing that Manisha’s death helped save the lives of the three individuals who were promised organs helped him alleviate some of his anguish.
He expressed confidence that more people would be saved because Manisha’s tissue and bones were also harvested.
“We had no idea who the recipients were, their race or religion, but the fact that Manisha made them happy brought indescribable joy to my family.” Thank God, we know who she is. All of her organs were used before she left us,” he told FMT.
Manisha had always aided the needy, according to Jagan Mongan, and he continued to do so after her death, something he will cherish forever.
“I want the world to understand how profound organ donation is.” It makes the family you leave behind happy. When you leave her, it lessens the sting of her loss,” he explained.
Manisha pawned all of her organs and tissues, according to Dr. Faiqah Nastasha Mohamed Sam, the donation coordinator at Sungai Buloh Hospital.
“However, only two kidneys and a liver were directly transplanted.” Their corneas and bones were extracted and kept for later use. “The corneas had a two-week grace period, but the bones could be saved for life,” she explained to FMT.
When a pawnbroker dies, members of the hospital’s organ donation staff often have conflicting emotions, she added.
It was difficult for her to observe the donor’s family’s anguish. On the other hand, seeing the delight of people standing by the beneficiaries is uplifting.
“It just warms our hearts to see this.” Despite the fact that they have no idea who the donor is, they always express their thanks and thank God for giving them a second opportunity at life. Donors who have passed away may watch. “Not that happiness,” she continued, “but their family will feel that happiness.”
The organ donation team jumped into action, according to Faiqah, who was helped throughout by nurse Zaidiana Yahya, when Jagan Mogan told them his recently deceased daughter had accepted her organs.
“We ran two tests to confirm she was brain dead around 8 a.m. on March 29.” Meanwhile, we had sent a blood sample to our lab, requested a radiology scan, and contacted our local procurement team and the National Transplant Center (NTRC).
She stated that the NTRC has notified the several transplant teams, including the National Heart Institute’s cardiothoracic department, Selayang Hospital’s hepatobiliary department, and the urology departments of Selayang Hospital and Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
“At 2.30 a.m. on March 30, Manisha was wheeled into our operating theater, NTRC, hepatobiliary team (Selayang), urology team (Selayang), ophthalmology team (Sungai Buloh), and orthopedic team (Sungai Buloh), and our anesthesia and stripping teams are waiting,” she said, adding that Selayang Hospital’s liver transplant team had mobilized.
