Mac Miller's New Album Is On Its Way

There will reportedly be another posthumous Mac Miller album soon.

Brooklyn rappers Talib Kweli and Amani Fela joined famous producer Madlib for a discussion on music and a cypher on Shade 45’s Sway in the Morning on Monday (March 27).

The California-born artist and beatmaker revealed something during a detailed discussion about Talib Kweli and Madlib’s recently released joint album, Liberation 2, that is certain to excite Mac Miller’s legions of devoted followers. The late member of the 2011 XXL Freshman Class, Mac, will be included on a forthcoming collaboration record that Madlib claimed he is presently finishing up. According to the Bandana producer, Mac’s estate has approved the production.

Madlib gave Sway a rundown of his post-Liberation 2 projects, saying, “Right now, I’m wrapping up the Mac Miller album, Planet Asia album, Erykah Badu album, and different stuff.”

The discussion then turned back to Mac Miller and the upcoming posthumous collaboration. Madlib was requested by Sway to go into further detail.

Is that the same Mac Miller project that was announced after his death but was never made public years ago? Around the 5:27 moment of the video below, Sway inquires as Madlib confirms the information. So the estate is no longer there?

Madlib responded, “Yes, they’re down,” to the enthusiastic applause and cheers from everyone in the room.

From there, Sway made the connection by pointing out that an unreleased Mac Miller verse was in fact included on Talib Kweli and Madlib’s Liberation 2 album. Talib then provided some insight into the creation of the song “Right to Love Us.”

Talib Kweli said, “Me and Mac Miller both rhymed to the same Madlib beat at the same time at different spots. We were like, “Oh now it’s a song together” when we learned that.

Just five months after the Swimming MC tragically passed away from a heroin overdose in September 2018, talk of the impending Mac Miller and Madlib album initially surfaced. Producer Thelonius Martin, a close friend of Mac Miller’s, said that he and Madlib collaborated on an album named Maclib that had not yet been released in an interview with DJ Booth at the time.

But approximately a month later, Madlib acknowledged the existence of Maclib only to clarify in a statement that as of March 2019, there were no concrete plans to abandon the project. According to Fader, the producer’s website has since been updated to remove Madlib’s official statement.

The collaboration with Madlib will be Mac Miller’s second posthumous album after Circles, which was published by Mac’s estate in January 2020. It is unclear, however, whether the record will keep the name Maclib.
