After Whelan joined the task team following Henry Cole’s apartment murder, Stabler became Whelan’s colleague. Bell comments to Stabler that Whelan makes her think of Stabler, so Stabler takes Whelan for a ride to get to know him better. Whelan and Stabler examine Henry’s flat before a hostile police officer in uniform confronts Stabler. Whelan offers to defend Stabler, but Stabler says he doesn’t need him to engage in combat. Then, Whelan informed Stabler that he joined the task force because he detested dishonest police officers. Then, Whelan and Stabler leave for the building site. Whelan and Stabler, though, almost got struck by some loose cables. Bishop cautions Whelan and Stabler that working on a building site might be hazardous. While the crew keeps looking for Kenny, Whelan and Stabler meet with Dede Hayes at her house. Dede explains to Whelan and Stabler that she and Kenny got into a quarrel and that she no longer wants to be with him. Dede also discussed her friendship with Kenny and Emily’s sister with Whelan and Stabler. Dede said she thought of Kenny like a brother. Whelan is perplexed and starts to believe that it is impossible for two people to be that close without having sex. After Dede scheduled a meeting with Kenny, Whelan and Stabler tracked her automobile after discovering her phone.
When Kenny enters the correct home, Whelan and Stabler, who had followed them to the incorrect home, knock on the door of an elderly woman. Later, Whelan and Stabler found Dede’s phone, which she had dropped. Whelan and Stabler were, however, brought to Yonkers by Jet’s numbers. When Whelan and Stabler locate the right home, they search it and discover the remains of the two murderers as well as Dede’s. The more responsible ones then learn that Kenny has stolen another vehicle and is headed to Canada. Jet eventually finds Kenny, and Bell and Reyes take him into custody. When Whelan and Stabler arrive, Bell expresses her optimism that Kenny will survive. She received assurances from Whelan and Stabler that Kenny would be doubly safe on his route to and from the hospital. (“Catch me if you can”)
