A 15-year-old girl who had been missing for three days was reportedly discovered dead, according to Illinois police. DeKalb police opened a homicide investigation after finding her death.
Police said in a news release on May 7 that they had detained a male friend of the victim. Although the girl’s identity was kept a secret by the authorities, her loved ones revealed it on social media as Gracie Sasso.
A 15-year-old girl was reported missing on Saturday in DeKalb, and her family said that according to phone records, she was last seen there on Thursday night at a residence in the city.
On social media, her family members recognized her as Gracie Sasso. Her body was found on the same street where her phone records were found on Sunday afternoon, not far from Northern Illinois University’s campus.
DeKalb police reported that they had started a homicide investigation and that although formal charges are still pending, a male acquaintance of the victim had been detained after a search warrant was executed at a nearby residence.
Police have reportedly said that there is no danger to the general public, according to Shaw Local. According to an email from Minerva Garcia-Sanchez, the district superintendent, the victim was a 15-year-old freshman at DeKalb High School, and the whole school district is lamenting the devastating loss, as reported by Shaw Local.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up by the victim’s family and friends to generate money for a Sweet Sixteen funeral that would honor Gracie’s fond memories.
