Because of her OnlyFans page, a BC teaching assistant learned that her employment was in danger.
Last Friday morning, the 35-year-old Port Coquitlam resident unexpectedly received an electronic cease-and-desist letter from her work at a high school in the Vancouver region.
While Kristin MacDonald’s name was on the email, “Ava James,” her online persona on the famous social media site OnlyFans, where users may sell original content, including sexual content to paid subscribers, was the intended recipient.
According to the email from the high school, “You are directed to immediately cease all activity and delete all online social media accounts, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and OnlyFans.”
Failure to comply could lead to disciplinary action, including termination.
Since July 2022, McDonald has been using the alias Ava James to produce explicit content for OnlyFans, which powers Instagram and TikTok Pages. Her part-time employment at OnlyFans gives her little daughter the extra money she desperately needs as a single mother. Due to recurrent back issues, she is currently unable to work.
Hours after getting the letter of suspension, MacDonald told the Daily Hive, “As an educational assistant, I’m not well paid.
Since 2015, MacDonald has worked for the Coquitlam School District, where she focuses on helping children and teenagers with special needs. MacDonald (who was not identified in this piece at MacDonald’s request) was still enrolled in high school as of Thursday. The moral and legal ambiguities that have arisen as a result of mixing Macdonald’s academic job with her autonomous work as a sex worker are clarified by her current career difficulty.
